ECAM is seeking industry partners to help bring a unique, hands-on learning experience to schools, career fairs, and community events across Manitoba.
We are raising funds to purchase a Great Canadian Electricity Map, a powerful educational tool that helps students and the public understand how electricity is generated, transmitted, and used, and the important role the electrical industry plays in everyday life.
The map is seven by nine meters in size and rolls out across a gymnasium or equivalent size floor. It comes with teaching resources help people learn about the electricity sector. The map itself lays out Canada's vast geography, electricity transmission system, and major generating infrastructure in its geographic location across the country. Nuclear, hydro, wind, solar, natural gas, and coal generating stations are all covered. There are even battery storage facilities and lithium mines on the map as well.
This engaging resource turns complex concepts into curiosity-driven learning, helping answer questions like:
- How is electricity generated and delivered?
- What do electricians and the electrical industry do?
- What are transmission lines and why are they important?
- How will electrification shape Canada's future?
- What career opportunities exist in the skilled trades?
The map has over 65 QR codes placed on the map that link to videos of actual people speaking about their roles, and the QR codes are geographically linked to where these individuals work. There are Engineers, technicians, tradespeople, and plenty of corporate services professionals speaking about their passion for the industry and why they do what they do every day. From the far north to the east and west coasts and everywhere in-between, there is a role that speaks to most young learners.
